Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of anesthesia equipment and supplies:
    • 1)Ensures anesthesia machines are available and in working order.
    • 2)Verifies adequate supply of gases on the Anesthesia Cart.
    • 3)Restocks, rotates stock, cleans and monitors supply levels located within Anesthesia carts.
    • 4)Assists the Anesthesiologist in the set-up of the O.R. as required.
    • 5)Contacts OR Team Lead or Supervisor immediately if problems arise with anesthesia equipment.
    • 6)Replaces and tests machine circuit.
    • 7)Maintains all laryngeal blades, airway masks and LMA's.
    • 8)Monitors supply levels of all anesthesia supplies and ensures adequate par levels are available.
    • 9)Ensures all work areas are maintained in an orderly fashion at all times.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Operating Rooms prior to each surgical procedure.
    • 1)Cleans instrumentation using proper care and handling as directed within Ambulatory Surgery Center safety guidelines.
    • 2)Returns all sterile supplies to the Anesthesia Workroom or supply areas of the Operating Rooms as indicated.
    • 3)Transports Anesthesia machine and supply carts as directed throughout the O.R. and G.I. lab.
  • Participates in maintenance of the Anesthesia Department:
    • 1)Monitors and records temperature of Anesthesia refrigerator and blanket warmer.
  • Responsible for stock levels and problems with linen and scrubs in surgical area:
    • 1)Monitors Surgical Staff scrubs and put them away.
    • 2)Stocks scrub sinks with masks, soap and scrub brushes.
    • 3)Check supply of fluids and blankets in blanket warmer.


Education/Experience Required:

  • * High School graduate or GED * 1 year hospital experience in a clinical position; (PCA, C.N.A; EMT experience)


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • * Good communication skills * Good customer service skills * Ability to follow directions and procedures. * Ability to work independently and as a team member. * Good time management skills with ability to complete work in a timely manner. * Knowledge of medical terminology * Ability to learn to work with complex equipment. * Good organizational skills
  • CPR


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • * Ability to successfully complete hospital-based training for Anesthesia Technician. * Ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage. * Willing to be called off based on unit demands. * Exposure to various contagious diseases, radiation, chemical, caustic materials, electrical equipment and hazards associated with their use. * Ability to handle multiple requests for assistance and to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
