Job Description
Executive Director
Responsible for the overall executive leadership for the Affiliate and ReStore. Responsibilities include supervision and mentoring of paid staff, maintaining and enhancing the infra-structure of the affiliate, serving as the primary communication link among directors, officers, committees and volunteers, networking with community services, serving as the public face and corporate spokesperson and providing the necessary follow-up to ensure that the whole organization runs smoothly and effectively while carrying out the goals and objectives of our mission.

Specific Responsibilities

Administration and Management
  • Oversee implementation of affiliate policies and procedures for the affiliate, outlying community extensions and ReStore. Responsible for public accountability of the organization and implementation of policies adopted by the Board. This includes policies as required by the HFHI Quality Assurance program.
  • Serve as the communication link between the Board, staff and other ad-hoc committees.
  • Supervise and assess performance of all long and short term staff. Perform screening, hiring and termination of staff. Provide oversight to ReStore Manager and Affiliate Administrator to see that policies and procedures, goals and the mission are effectively carried out.
  • Authorize expenditures within the guidelines set by the Board of Directors.
  • Consult with Treasurer and Bookkeeper on payment of bills and other financial reports as needed for the Board Meetings, grants, and funding sources.
  • Prepare agenda and affiliate report for Board meetings.
  • Serve as liaison between Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat Virginia and local affiliate.
  • Implement and provide training opportunities for staff.
  • Maintain and update all committee manuals, Habitat International Manuals and information, and marketing material.
  • Assist with committee functions as needed.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of all prospective volunteers and donations.
  • Maintain a grants and events calendar; post events to the website and publicize on social media.

Resource Development
  • Oversee the creation of an annual fund development plan.
  • Lead in identifying funding and grant resources.
  • Provide leadership for solicitation of major gifts, including identifying and meeting with major corporate and individual donors.
  • Provide leadership for securing volunteers in meeting the mission and goals of the affiliate.
  • Cultivate in-kind materials, services, and land donations whenever possible and report all real and potential donations to appropriate committee chairpersons.
  • Serve as lead to organize and coordinate fund raising programs such as special events, direct mail and alternative financing programs.
  • Assist Treasurer and Finance Committee in developing yearly budgets.
  • Serve as liaison to secure and assist with annual audit.

Public Relations
  • Serve as primary spokesperson for the organization.
  • Establish regular speaking engagements with local churches, civic organizations, financial institutions, and government entities.
  • Coordinate the development of regular media releases.
  • Expand Habitat's visibility and partnerships in the community. This would include outreach to all local religious, business, civic and volunteer organizations, foundations or other charitable giving organizations as well as other government and non-government housing and human service organizations.
  • Preparation of monthly newsletters.
  • Coordination and development of social media releases.
  • Development of relationships with local media outlets.
  • Develop and coordinate all marketing efforts, including brochures, pamphlets, media, and electronic.
  • Assist Affiliate Administrator with family selection process and speaking with prospective partner families.

Construction
  • Oversee the construction process.
  • Coordinate volunteers to assist in the construction build(s).
  • Assist Construction Coordinator with the process of managing the budget for houses, coding invoices, in-kind and monetary donations and maintaining the overall building process.

Required skills and qualifications
  • Experience in senior management, preferably with nonprofit organizations
  • Strong experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofit organizations
  • Proven success working with a board of directors
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning
  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization
  • Preferred skills and qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in business, finance or management
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
