We're currently searching for a Sewing Specialist to join our Corp of Cadet's Tailor Shop in Blacksburg, VA. So, if you are a skilled seamstress looking for full-time work with a generous benefit package, this could be the job for you!

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:

You will alter and fabricate uniforms for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Marching Virginians.

You will provide quality repair work and alterations to the university and local community.

Your responsibilities will include using an industrial sewing machine to make proactive or requested alterations to uniform garments. You will also be responsible for taking in and letting out seams, hemming trousers and skirts, hand stitching of chevrons and stripes, and other necessary repairs such as mending, and button or zipper replacing as needed.

You may also be responsible for more complex work that could consist of completely disassembling the garment, making the necessary alterations, and reassembling the altered garment according to specifications.

You will be reporting directly to the Tailor Shop Manager and indirectly to the Storekeeper Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

* Previous sewing or tailoring experience including alterations.

* Previous sewing experience using industrial and/or consumer-type sewing machines.

* Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with hand sewing.

* Ability to follow tailor's marks and instructions.

* Strong interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain successful and effective relationships with a diverse, multicultural student and staff population.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous military sewing/alterations experience.

* Previous stockroom experience, including inventory duties.
