Job Overview

The role of the Subject Matter Expert I is to provide customers with shipboard & shore systems CAD design support at the systems, unit and component design levels. This position reports directly to the Product MFG Group in Chesapeake, VA.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Working closely with the government sponsor(s) and other contractors/subcontractors
  • Provide systems, unit and component design support to include recommendations based on industry research and experienced based knowledge
  • Provide cost/benefit-based recommendations within assigned project constraints
  • Create and edit various types of drawings in provided formats such as
    • NAVSEA Installation Control Drawings
    • NIWC Installation Requirements Drawings
    • NAVSEA/Planning Yard Ship Installation Drawings
    • Fabrication drawings
    • Assembly Drawings
    • Technical Data Packages
  • Participate and sometimes host various levels of design reviews
  • Participate in Engineering Change (ECP) Processes
  • Participate manufacturing reviews
  • Interact with machine shops and other designers
  • Provide project time and detail estimates
  • Provide project detailed completion information (progress reports)
  • Coordinates with manager, maintains ability to work well with others, adhere to contract requirements, and comply with company policies and procedures
  • Other duties may be assigned

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • Must be a US citizen
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have an active Secret clearance
  • Eight (8) years of hands-on experiencewith specific relevant CAD projects in at least three (3) of the following five (5) areas: Systems Requirements, Operational Requirements, Technical Data Package (TDP) Reviews, Test & Evaluation, and Training
  • Knowledge of drafting standards
  • Demonstrable AutoCad experience in 2D drawings
  • Demonstrable 3D CAD (AutoDesk, Solidworks or other) experience
  • Prior to traveling for the company, must have valid driver's licensewith ability to provide driving record upon request

Preferred:

  • Knowledge and experience with NAVSEA GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR OVERHAUL OF SURFACE SHIPS (GSO)
  • Experience with shipboard or other platform shock and vibration and stress analysis
  • AutoDesk Inventor
  • AutoDesk Inventor NASTRAN module
  • Siemens Finite Element Analysis (FEMAP)
  • Ability to conduct some electrical calculations related to shipboard wiring
  • Ability to research useful components in designs
  • Ability to research and understand electrical, video and control connections between devices in developing wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of audio/video systems
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word
