Job Description

U.S. CITIZENS ONLY! Due to the nature of our research and the necessity to obtain security clearance, the Engineering division of Kratos SRE is only permitted to consider and hire U.S. Citizens for this position. Permanent Residents and Visa-holders are not eligible for employment.

General Summary

The goal of this position is to provide expertise in RF Engineering for research and technology development. The successful candidate will have daily interactions with project team membersiand sponsors acting as both a liaison and a project leader, coordinating betweenicustomers and Huntsville and Birmingham Kratos engineering staff and facilities. Ideal candidates will be subject matter experts in all RF technologies with laboratory/field and integration experience as well as a strong background in theory, design and simulationitools. the role will also involve helping to coordinate a team of engineers with mechanical, electrical, and software tasks. This position requires relocation to Alabama.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and Development Responsibilities:
    • Apply knowledge of the field to new science and technology and work to find creative solutions to hard problems.
    • Able to perform experimental calibrations and test using a diverse set of waveforms.
  • Project Coordination and Logistics Responsibilities:
    • Interface with the engineering teams weekly and coordinate design, development, integration, and testing activities to meet schedule and budget.i
  • Engineering Design Responsibilities:
    • Manage design requirements and explore tradeoffs in collaborationiwith electrical, software, mechanical engineers.
  • RF ExpertiseiResponsibilities:
    • Be a trusted source of information for key decision making around RF design and testing, ranging from waveguideito link budgets to antennas to schematicsito integration.
  • Analog and Digital Design Responsibilities:
    • Maintain understanding of modern methods for interfacing between analog and digital RF domains.
  • Laboratory Responsibilities:
    • Able to probe and diagnose RF systems from top to bottom usingibenchtop equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzerior oscilloscopes, and power meters.
    • Possess the ability to analyze and interpret waveforms and time series.
    • Able to process data using statistical tools, fitting algorithms, etc.

Required Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain DOD/IC Security Clearance
  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5 to 8 years DoD experience.
  • Demonstrated project management experience 1-2 years.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise in RF communications principles and waveforms such as BPSK, QPSK, and FSK.
  • Experience with RF over fiber (RFoF) systems.
  • Willing to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
  • Willing to relocate to Alabama.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Experience with MATLAB and LabView
  • Digital and/or analog electrical hardware design
  • Experience modeling/simulating RF architectures
  • Strong mathematical/analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this position.
