Company Overview

Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo) is a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy for the safe, environmental cleanup of legacy nuclear waste at the Hanford Site. An Amentum-led partnership with Fluor and Atkins, CPCCo is responsible for managing site operations; facility deactivation, decommissioning, decontamination and demolition; waste-site remediation; and transuranic waste management on Hanford’s Central Plateau and along the Columbia River Corridor. We maintain an integrated site lifecycle approach that safely achieves meaningful near-term goals and reduces risk, while accelerating the overall remediation schedule and minimizing lifecycle costs.

Core Principles
To accomplish our mission, CPCCo will adhere to Core Principles, drawn from our corporate values and experience, to ensure excellent performance. These Core Principles are:

  • Compliant, safe work is paramount. This means we put safety first at all times.
  • People are key to mission success. We demonstrate the value of our workforce by investing in retention and development, to ensure a capable, versatile and agile talent pool that stands ready to contribute to the Hanford mission.
  • Carbon footprint reduction is lifecycle cost reduction. This means we minimize contributions to carbon emissions in our work, and we are permanently eliminating contributions by completing major workscope that reduces the site footprint.
  • Cost-effective cleanup benefits the customer and the company. This means we value a collaborative, win-win approach to cleanup that fully embraces the End State contracting model, which emphasizes and incentivizes cost and schedule optimization.

The work we do
The Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo) is an Amentum-led partnership with Fluor and Atkins – three internationally respected companies with deep experience in environmental cleanup across the DOE complex, including Hanford.

In December 2019, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded CPCCo a contract to conduct the safe, secure, compliant and cost-effective environmental cleanup of select portions of the Hanford Site. The contract, valued at $10 billion over a 10-year period, oversees:
  • Management of site operations for DOE-Richland cleanup facilities
  • Facility deactivation, decommissioning, decontamination and demolition and waste site remediation
  • Transuranic waste management
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)/Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) decision documents to support cleanup actions associated with the Hanford Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order
  • Business core functions to support these efforts

We are committed to seeking DOE and regulator alignment on the cleanup vision, refocusing site culture to enhance progress, transforming the skyline, reducing site risk and liability, and shrinking overall industrial footprint, lifecycle costs and schedule.

Our aim is to be the safest, best-performing, most-respected cleanup contractor in the DOE Environmental Management complex. As part of DOE’s One Hanford approach, CPCCo works closely with other site contractors to provide a collaborative, integrated approach to cleanup and risk reduction.
