Job Summary

As a Summer Camp Leader, you will lead fun activities and field trips for our communities. A Camp Leader will support Camp Supervisors and Aides to do meaningful work to enrich the lives of the children in their care. Programs serve a diverse population across the county at school sites, recreation centers, and community centers. In addition, camp participants will experience field trips with indoor and outdoor activities. A successful candidate will be passionate, energetic, and skilled at leading children and youth of all ages.

Camp Leaders are needed for the following camp programs:

  • Daze and Fest Camps
  • Recreation & Community Center Camps
  • Recreation & Community Center Trips Camps

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing consistent and effective communication with children, their parents and/or guardians.
  • Prioritizing the health, safety, and company service standards to all our external and internal customers Lead pool/field trips and activities for all ages, abilities, and adaptive needs.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.

Positions are scheduled from the month of June to August.
Workdays are Monday-Friday with flexible hours between.
Consistent Scheduling and/or "As-Needed" Scheduling is available and varies by location. 


This position is eligible for a $1,000.00 hiring bonus in accordance with the County’s Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma and Six (6) months experience supervising children during recreational and educational activities.

Applicants that have completed the 10th grade may be considered for a lower grade level position until the completion of high school.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One-year programmatic experience with children, including previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Skill in using iPad, phone, and laptop.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment fingerprinting and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
  • First Aid (Infant through Adult)/CPR certifications prior to hire or immediately upon hire.
  • Pass TB test within 30 days before hire date and every year therefor.
  • Must be willing to attend up to 24 hours of paid annual programmatic training during the school year to enhance skills and knowledge of school aged childcare and programming.
  • Must be physically able to keep up with participants and lift 50 pounds.

Benefits elgibility for temporary employees are dependent on duration of assignment and number of scheduled hours.

  • Graduate degree in child related field (elementary education, psychology, sociology, nursing, recreation) and 6 months of experience working with children.
  • Bachelor's degree in child related field (elementary education, psychology, sociology, nursing, recreation) and 1 year of experience working with children.
  • 48 college credit hours completed with 12 credit hours being in children-related subjects and 1 year of experience working with children.
  • Two years of childcare experience (including 1 year with supervisor/management experience) and one of the following: 1-year early childhood certificate from a college or university – or – Montessori certificate.

  • Daze and Fest Camps – Serving grade K-8; Eighteen (18) locations across the county. Offers arts and crafts, sports, playground activities, Supervises field and pool trips.
  • Recreation & Community Center Camps- Servicing ages 2-14; Locations include Bluemont, Lucketts (Leesburg), Douglass (Leesburg), Sterling, Loudoun Valley (Purcellville). Offers cooking, games and adventures, arts and crafts, STEM, computer, martial arts and outdoor activities.
  • Recreation & Community Center Trips Camps- Servicing ages 5-21; Locations include Bluemont, Lucketts (Leesburg), Douglass (Leesburg), Sterling, Loudoun Valley (Purcellville), Dulles South (South Riding). Trips to pool, zoos, museums, athletic and outdoor venues, theme parks, water parks and sports complex/fields.
