Job Description
The Public Affairs Specialist will support the Army National Museum of the United States Public Affairs Support in the National Capitol Region. The Public Affairs Specialist will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
 
  • Assess, research, prepare response, coordinate as required, and respond using the appropriate channel, for inquiries requiring a public affairs staffing and response
  • Receive and document inquiries received by email, phone, or in person; analyze and research the inquiry, coordinate with the appropriate subject matter expert, and prepare/provide a complete and appropriate reply. Maintain a log to track all inquiries from inquiry to answer
  • Research and develop communications plans for big-picture/overall Museum public affairs in accordance with Army policy, and in support of NMUSA mission and goals
  • Maintain a full-service media relations capabilities to promote Museum activities, programs, and messaging and to provide media relations services in response to media requests. Generate, research, write, edit, and coordinate the review with the defined subject matter expert news releases, media advisories, public announcement, media products, press material.
  • Provide media escort and media relations services for more in-depth/on-site media interviews and filming which typically occur after visitor hours when the Museum is not open.
  • Respond to requests for articles, photos, news and feature stories for visitor bureaus, tourism kiosks, and other information distribution outlets within Army regulations and NMUSA guidelines
  • Develop and maintain an outreach strategy, serve as Museum representative at outreach events, prepare and maintain outreach presentations, briefings, contact files, and outreach collateral materials.
  • Engage with a variety of audiences at public events with the specific intent to promote and publicize the Museum. 
  • Prepare and maintain a general information Museum briefing appropriate for external and internal audiences and present briefing when needed.
  • Develop and maintain an outreach contact file for outreach communications efforts to promote specific events and programs and to increase awareness of the NMUSA. 
  • Manage the development, production, inventory control, and distribution of Museum guides and collateral material regularly distributed via regional visitor centers, area attractions, and other tourism/visitor outlets. 
  • Provide social media planning, management/interaction, execution on four (4) social media platforms supporting NMUSA strategic communication goals and messaging and in accordance with Department of the Army social media policies.
  • Provide event and ceremonial management services to include administrative support, protocol planning and support, administration of event policies and procedures, developing and executing community outreach events, coordinate requirements and schedules.
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum HS or GED, BA/BS preferred
  • 3 years of experience performing tasks similar to stated responsibilities
