Job/Internship Description

Thornton Tomasetti provides engineering design, investigation and analysis services to clients worldwide on projects of every size and level of complexity. Thornton Tomasetti's Corporate Responsibility Department is seeking an Intern to support our efforts to advance environmental sustainability in business operations and in our professional services, and to meet corporate social responsibility goals in our engagement with employees and communities. This position is located in the vibrant Old Port of Portland, Maine.

Thornton Tomasetti's Corporate Responsibility Department sets corporate responsibility goals for practices and operations, manages the implementation, measures the progress, and publicly reports on what we are doing. The Corporate Responsibility Intern is integral to the success of the department.

Description

  • Support a team of Green Champions, employees in our office locations around the world working to meet corporate sustainability goals.
  • Conduct research on cutting-edge directions in corporate responsibility.
  • Organize and analyze data related to sustainability reporting.
  • Assist with research on embodied carbon in buildings.
  • Collaborate with our employees across the country and oversees in order to gather reliable data.
  • Put together charts and presentations based on findings.
  • Manage corporate responsibility sites on our internal social media platform.
  • Write blog articles and help develop other communications material as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduates or graduate students preferred.
  • Prior experience with sustainability inventories or carbon footprint assessments.
  • Excellent academic records (above 3.0/B grade point average).
  • An academic interest in sustainability, energy, business, engineering and/or architecture preferred. (Please note this is not an engineering or architecture internship.)
  • A career interest in sustainability and organizational change.
  • Strong experience using Excel for data management.
  • Experience using Powerpoint for presentations; graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Experience doing on-line research.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Self-directed, practical and analytical.

Interns are expected to work the equivalent of 40 hours/week, with flexibility for vacation. This position starts in June/July 2019 and is a six-month internship with potential expansion up to 1 year. The position reports to Thornton Tomasetti's Corporate Responsibility Officer in Portland, Maine.
